Play equipment for Harkstead Millennium Green - Ideas needed

February 2010

Harkstead Parish Council wants to know your ideas on how best to spend £1069 of grant money for new play equipment for the Millennium Green.

The parish council is responsible for the play equipment on Harkstead's Millennium Green, all other issues being the responsibility of the Millennium Green Playing Fields Trust. The parish council has been lucky enough to secure £1069 of grant money to spend on play equipment. We are mindful that play equipment can be very expensive to buy. We are therefore very keen to better understand the views of parents and children in the village on the type(s) of play equipment that they would like to have on the green. For example, the basketball ring could be replaced (a relatively cheap item), a net could be provided for the goal post, a smaller '5-a-side' goal and net could be installed and / or the roundabout base is in need of major repair (which could be very costly indeed).

This money is unlikely to go far and it is unlikely that we can secure further grant aid in the current finanical climate to buy some of the larger play equipment that can be found in many of the larger play field in the county. Much of the existing equipment was bought with the help of intensive fundraising and through the parish precept (which comes out of your council tax). So, if people are willing to lead fundraising activities or are willing to pay a little extra to provide better facilities for the children and young people in the village, then we are also interested in your views.

Please send your views and ideas to the parish council via Pam. Alternatively, speak to any of your parish councillers, details of which are on the village website.
